About This Workshop

Join Elijah and Erin for our September workshops where we'll be building Robot Races: Mechanical Mayhem! We will code a robot racing game where robots explode and malfunction, and fixing your robot relies on how fast your critical and creative mind can move with your keyboard of course.  We will be doing visual scripting, 3D Animation, 3D Modeling, Hit Physics, Particle Explosions and Fire, AI Code Development and Teamwork in Communication & Organization.

Specific Skills We'll be Focusing On

Business Planning & Preparation

Learn how to write a business plan, explore your strengths and weaknesses and identify your target market. You'll also learn how to make the most of google to do your research in order to ensure that you've got the best possible understanding of and plan for your business.

Branding

We'll be talking about how to create a strong logo and developing and overall feel and style for your business. We'll also talk about different logo creation techniques along with exploring various ways that you can set up your website and the pros and cons of each option. You'll also get a short lesson on business card etiquette and we'll discuss a few of our favorite networking tips. 

Promotion & PR

A business can only be successful if your customers know about it! We'll be teaching you the basics of social media for business and giving you some time-saving tools for managing that, and we'll also be going over how and when to write a press release, and how to figure out who you should be sending it to. We'll also talk about other creative ways to get publicity for your business.

We're delighted to be hosting this workshop in the meeting space at the Howell Area Chamber of Commerce.

This gives students not only the opportunity to learn video game design, but to be learning
in an environment that is abuzz with the daily activities of successfful local business owners. 

Software You'll be Learning

Autodesk Mudbox

Each student in the Robot Race: Mechanical Mayhem 4-week workshop will recieve a educational license for fully working copy of Autodesk Mudbox this will allow the student to Sculpt 3D Characters and Objects as well as texturing and doing look development inside of a 3D space. This is an educational software license that has been graciously provided by Autodesk for training purposes, meaning that you can use the software to create anything you like as you learn, and there are no additional licensing fees until you get to a point where you're ready to use it for commercial purposes. 

Playmaker

You will recieve an educational copy of the visual scripting tool called Playmaker.  This will allow students to code, plan, and create AI from their laptops at home and in the workshop. This is an educational software license that has been generously provided by Hutong Games for training purposes, meaning that you can use the plugin to create anything you like as you learn, and there are no additional licensing fees until you get to a point where you're ready to use it for commercial purposes.

Maya

Maya is the choice of most professional 3D Artist you will receive an educational license for Maya 2019.  With Maya a student can create complex3D models from a simple box and create characters, environments, and vechicles that can later be imported to Unity. This is an educational software license that has been graciously provided by Autodesk for training purposes, meaning that you can use the software to create anything you like as you learn, and there are no additional licensing fees until you get to a point where you're ready to use it for commercial purposes. 

System Requirements

Laptop with Windows 10, 64-bit versions only
Laptop should have at least 8gb of ram.
Laptop must have at least 30gb of hard drive free space
Graphics card with DX10 (shader model 4.0) capabilities.
